About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Jongno-Gu

Jongno-gu is the historic heart of Seoul, containing Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Insadong's antique street. The area balances ancient and modern — traditional Korean restaurants, teahouses, and street food vendors operate alongside contemporary galleries and specialty coffee shops. Eating here feels like a connection to centuries of Seoul food culture.

Long que, waited like 30mins but under shutter and heated areas. The big dumplings come in soup or dry cookimg style but taste less. A lot onion and spring onion. Spup plain taste. Side dishes taste good but staff very unhelpful. Dont allow refill....

Highly recommend getting the Kalguksu; it’s their namesake for a reason. Even if you decide to try another dish, you should get one to share for the table. There will likely be a wait for a table as I believe this restaurant is on the Michelin guide. Ready fast and not very expensive. The night prior there had been hours long wait for a table. We decided to check on it the next morning because we walked by 15 minutes before they opened on a Monday and there was still a long line but we were served immediately because there was sufficient seating inside to accommodate us. After we left, there was probably a couple of hours long wait to get in. Even though it was like 11:40 on a Monday afternoon. So probably best bet to dine here is to arrive on a weekDAY before they open. Personally, I did not like the Manduguk. The Mandu inside were good but the broth itself was eh. I LOVED the kalguksu. Very good. Reminded me of Khao Piak.

I walked by this place one day, about 1pm. and the line was 30 people long. Nope. but I did see the Michelin Star symbol and somehow thought it might be good.... maybe one to come back to....and so I did - only last morning in Seoul. and it was worth it. No wait, almost walked thru at about 11:20AM. I had their signature Handmade Choopped Noodle soup, and their Mandu Jumbo Dumplings. Clearly a lot of food for one person, even me - but had to try it. Anyway, it was *delicious*. highly recommend this place :).
