About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Mapo-Gu

Mapo-gu — home to Hongdae, Sinchon, and Hapjeong — is Seoul's youth and arts district, defined by its university population, live music venues, and creative energy. The food scene is diverse, affordable, and experimental: trendy cafés, late-night pojangmacha, global street food, and boundary-pushing restaurants all compete for attention in this perpetually buzzing neighbourhood.

A delicious, traditional Korean noodle spot inside Mangwon Market. The menu is small and focused, but that's because the noodles are freshly handmade on-site—and they are fantastic! The portions are huge, and the prices are very cheap, making it incredible value. It does get crowded, and the seating is basic and not very comfortable, but the amazing, authentic food is absolutely worth it. A true market gem!

This spot was the main reason we headed to Mangwon Market, and it did not disappoint! We ordered the Jajangmyeon and Kalguksu, and both were absolutely mouth-watering. The Kalguksu soup base tastes incredibly natural and fresh, while the Jajangmyeon is hands-down the best we’ve ever had. Their chili sauce is pretty spicy. We loved their pickled radish too. What to Expect: The place is quite cozy (small), so it can only accommodate a few groups at a time. Since it’s a local favorite and has been featured on numerous Korean TV shows, expect a queue. We waited about 10 minutes for a table. A huge plus is that the staff takes your order while you’re still in line. Once you’re seated, the food arrives almost immediately! Even if there is a line, don't be intimidated—the turnaround is quick and the food is well worth the wait.

The noodles are worth lining up for. #1 is Sujebi #2 is Jjajangmyeon #3 is Kalguksu (in photo) Service is fast and the turnaround time is quick. (Leave the restaurant once done or have them make you leave for staying after you've finished eating).
