About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Jongno-Gu

Jongno-gu is the historic heart of Seoul, containing Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Insadong's antique street. The area balances ancient and modern — traditional Korean restaurants, teahouses, and street food vendors operate alongside contemporary galleries and specialty coffee shops. Eating here feels like a connection to centuries of Seoul food culture.

If you’re looking for a no frills Korean meal that feels both comforting and a bit celebratory, this bossam and chives pancake place absolutely hits the spot. I came in craving something hearty, and the combination of bossam and pajeon (chives pancake) ended up being one of those “why don’t I eat this more often?” meals. It’s the kind of place where you can tell they understand balance. Rich but not cloying, savoury but not one note, and everything works better when you eat it the way it’s meant to be eaten, together. Let’s start with the bossam. The pork was tender and properly cooked through, with that clean, satisfying bite that doesn’t feel greasy or heavy. What I appreciated most was how “neat” it tasted. No funky aftertaste, just straightforward porky richness done right. It comes alive once you build a proper wrap: a slice of meat, a bit of kimchi or pickled vegetables, and whatever sauce they provide to bring the whole thing into focus. That contrast is what makes bossam addictive. Warm, soft meat against sharp, crunchy, tangy sides. This place nails that experience. Every bite felt complete, not like you’re constantly trying to “fix” it with extra seasoning. The chives pancake was the perfect partner dish. It had that classic savoury fragrance the moment it hit the table, and the texture was exactly what you want. Crisp at the edges with a satisfying chew in the middle. It wasn’t overly oily, and it held together well, which matters because nothing ruins a good pancake faster than a limp, greasy bite. Dip it into the sauce, alternate it with the bossam, and you get this rhythm of flavours that keeps the meal exciting from start to finish. And the makgeolli, honestly, that was the cherry on top. It’s slightly sweet, lightly tangy, and smooth enough that it pairs beautifully with heavier food without making you feel weighed down. There’s something about that milky, gently fizzy sip between bites of pork and pancake that just makes the whole meal feel like a proper Korean dining moment. If you’re coming with friends, I’d strongly recommend getting makgeolli to share. It elevates the vibe immediately. Overall, this is the type of place I’d bring someone who wants Korean food beyond the usual staples. The food feels honest, well executed, and satisfying, and the bossam, chives pancake, and makgeolli combo is a guaranteed win. I’d gladly return, and next time I’m bringing more people so we can order even more sides and make a full feast out of it.

Cozy atmosphere and delicious food! We’ve been here several times when visiting Seoul and it feels like a home cooked meal right off a bustling street. Can’t miss this garlic bossam and the makgeolli is a must.
