About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Jungnang-Gu

Jungnang-gu is a residential district in northeastern Seoul with a working-class food culture built around affordable staples. Local markets, gukbap restaurants, and neighbourhood bunsik shops form the backbone of a dining scene that prioritises value and familiarity.

A milmyeon restaurant located in an alleyway in Dongwon Market near Myeonmok Station. While milmyeon is their specialty, they also offer other menu items like yangjitang (spicy beef stew), tteokmanduguk (spicy rice cake soup), and grilled bulgogi (spicy beef stew), making it a great place for a large group. Since it was my first time, I ordered milmyeon... Both the mul milmyeon and bibim milmyeon are as delicious as the local Busan dishes... In fact, the fact that you can help yourself to four different side dishes makes it even better than in Busan. The hot broth is also delicious... I personally think the cold broth is a bit too salty, so I'd suggest reducing the saltiness a bit. There's plenty of seating in the winter, but I imagine it'll be packed in the summer heat. I'd love to return for a traditional market shopping trip...

It's a friendly and clean restaurant.

The restaurant is clean, and the Gaya Milmyeon is delicious, as expected. The broth is clean and delicious. The noodles are chewy and firm, so I highly recommend it.
