About 일식

Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.

About Jung-Gu

Jung-gu sits at the geographic and commercial center of Seoul, encompassing Myeongdong (K-beauty and street food), Namdaemun Market, and the financial district. The food here spans the full range — from tourist-facing street stalls in Myeongdong to understated lunch joints serving office workers, and traditional Korean restaurants that have operated for decades without needing to advertise.

What Visitors Say

I had the ₩75,000 lunch course at Sushiwa, located on the second floor of the Somerset Palace Hotel. As expected from a hotel restaurant, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the overall space was comfortable and relaxing. The lunch course was well-organized and well-paced, and each dish was exquisitely prepared. The sashimi and sushi were fresh and well-prepared, allowing the ingredients to fully express their flavors. The balance was impressive without being overpowering. Even the ice cream at the end was satisfying, making this a truly satisfying lunch course and highly recommended.

This is a sushi-specialized Japanese restaurant I've always wanted to visit. Chef Ahn Hyo-sang, younger brother of Chef Ahn Hyo-joo, who was featured on Mr. Sushi King, has taken over the reins at Sushihyo, and the cuisine is highly anticipated. The sashimi, sushi, and other course dishes are all delicious. It's conveniently located at the second floor of the Somerset Palace Seoul Hotel in Susong-dong, right in front of Gwanghwamun Square. Because it's located within the hotel, everything is clean and quiet, from the entrance to the interior. Everything, from the dodgems to the tables and rooms, is perfectly prepared, allowing you to enjoy your meal in a quiet atmosphere. The food was truly delicious, and the servers were incredibly friendly, making for a comfortable and enjoyable meal. I'll definitely be returning to this restaurant again.
