Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.
Seodaemun-gu houses Sinchon and Ewha — university neighborhoods known for affordable food, vibrant nightlife, and a youthful dining culture. The area is dense with budget-friendly Korean restaurants, late-night delivery options, and cafés that stay open until the early hours. It's a neighbourhood where eating well on a student budget is entirely achievable.

View all →I added octopus to the Agujjim Soja (Korean Agu Stew), and the portion was generous, and the seafood was so fresh I couldn't put it down. It wasn't spicy, but had a mild, savory flavor, so I finished two bowls of rice in one sitting. The owner was friendly, and the eggplant fritters they served were Chinese-style, which was impressive. The promise of not reusing leftovers made me believe it, and I'd love to visit again.
From monkfish stew to stir-fried octopus and codfish soup, everything here is delicious. The codfish soup is savory and light, and you can adjust the spiciness to your liking. The whole codfish is especially filling, and the fresh ingredients like water parsley keep you coming back for more. The side dishes, like steamed eggs, stir-fried anchovies and peanuts, and seasoned dried radish greens, are neat and delicious, making the meal even more filling. It's popular with Seodaemun-gu Office employees during lunch hours, and on weekends, it's popular with groups like hikers, so it's a good idea to call ahead to place your order. The proximity to the Hongjecheon Stream Trail makes it a great place for a stroll after a meal, and the friendly atmosphere makes it a great spot for family, friends, or company dinners.
Very nice staff. Food was really good and Ajuma very nice and friendly.
