A budaejjigae (Korean army stew) specialty chain
A one-minute walk from Exit 9 of Gasan Digital Complex Station
Located on the second floor of Building A of Woorim Lions Valley.
JVL budaejjigae is 10,000 won.
Perfect for solo diners!
This budaejjigae is loaded with bean sprouts.
If you visit for lunch, they seem to give you a bowl of ramen.
The noodles are thin, like snack noodles,
so those who enjoy snack noodles might enjoy them.
However, I personally find the thin noodles
a bit difficult to cook until tender.
This restaurant is operated by Jacksonville,
and they advertise it here and there, and their budaejjigae comes with Jacksonville sausage as a standard.
While ham is generally considered more delicious than sausage in budaejjigae, the sausage here is even better.
If you like a chewy texture, you'll love it.
The broth is also salty and rich, leaving you very satisfied. Basically, it's a bowl of rice topped with a slice of ham!
The side dishes consist of stir-fried fish cake, seasoned bean sprouts, and kimchi.
The kimchi's sour flavor seems to pair well with budaejjigae.
Personally, I like budaejjigae best when it comes with stir-fried fish cake or macaroni, but I was glad they included fish cake.
The portion for one person is enough for a filling meal.
Store & Tips & Overall Review
The store is small and only has tables for four.
I was worried about dining alone because there weren't any tables for two,
but they were so kind and welcoming, which I appreciated.
I visited a little after noon, so there were plenty of tables available.
Order at your table and pay at the counter when you leave!
The food is basically set up, and you just have to boil it and eat.
Due to the nature of stew, it can be a bit hot in the summer.
There are two budaejjigae restaurants on the same floor,
but this one offers better value.
