About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Gwangjin-Gu

Gwangjin-gu's Konkuk University area has a dense concentration of restaurants catering to students — affordable, diverse, and open late. The area is a reliable destination for budget Korean dining: tteokbokki, kimbap, and pork cutlet restaurants line the streets near the university gates.

We ordered two servings of the basic Dakgalbi. We didn't add anything extra. However, the portion was too small. And it was too sweet. The only vegetable in the Dakgalbi was cabbage. There were no onions or green onions, and neither were the sweet potatoes nor potatoes, which are Dakgalbi's partners. Side dishes are self-serve. There was lettuce and perilla leaves, and pickled radish slices. And most importantly, there were no chili peppers or garlic. The cabbage salad was all dried out and tasteless, and the sesame dressing didn't go well with it. It seemed like they made it themselves because it was too salty and thick... and it wouldn't mix with the cabbage. Since the portion was so small, we ordered two portions of fried rice, but it was too sweet... too sweet. too sweet. too sweet. And even though it was fried rice, the rice was so mushy I thought it was porridge. I am never going back there again... never again... Too sweet and the portions are too small!!!

Artisan Dakgalbi is easily found around Konkuk University. Because it's a chain restaurant, the taste is guaranteed. Eat it with udon noodles instead of cheese, and it's truly delicious. Wrap it with perilla leaves and ssammu, and finish with fried rice for a complete dinner!

There's no need to bother going there. The service is lacking compared to the price. Even the side dishes are self-serve. The meat is cooked, but it's still lacking something. The Chuncheon Dakgalbi is actually better. 24.11.18
