About 분식

Bunsik — Korean street-food snacks — evolved as affordable, filling fare for students and workers after the Korean War. Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), kimbap (seaweed rice rolls), sundae (blood sausage), and odeng (fish cake skewers in broth) are the staples. Most bunsik restaurants are fast, casual, and open late, making them a go-to for a quick hot meal at any hour.

About Gangnam-Gu

Gangnam-gu is Seoul's upscale business and entertainment district south of the Han River. Home to K-pop entertainment companies, COEX Mall, and the Apgujeong-Rodeo shopping strip, it attracts young professionals, tourists, and K-drama fans. Restaurants here tend toward the polished and premium, with a density of international cuisine, high-end Korean dining, and trendy cafés.

My office is right in front of Exit 5 of Seolleung Station, so I'm heading to the food alley again today. The restaurant I'm looking for for lunch is in the food alley behind Exit 5. There's always a line at Gukbap Chammatjip Yeoksam Branch. But I arrived early today, so the line was short. Gukbap Chammatjip Yeoksam Branch opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 10 p.m. It's open on Saturdays and Sundays, but it seems to be closed on holidays. There's no break time or last order, so you can sit down and eat whenever you want, except during lunch hours. Gukbap Chammatjip Yeoksam Branch has about 20 tables, but it's so popular that people are waiting both inside and outside. I think this restaurant will help the restaurants in the food alley. People who don't want to wait will probably go a little further in for lunch. Since it was my first time at Gukbap Chammatjip, I ordered the basic sundae gukbap. The side dishes included cabbage kimchi, cubed radish kimchi, Cheongyang peppers, onions, and ssamjang. The bubbling sundae soup arrived, but I was surprised to find no sundae. I felt like they'd traded it with my colleague who ordered pork soup, so I swapped it again. Even though I waited 10 minutes, I was still happy. The broth was delicious, and I imagine they'd spent a long time boiling the bones to make it. Perhaps because the turnover was fast, the sundae and other side dishes were also quite tasty. The side dishes are also refillable, which is convenient. The reason people line up is probably because of the taste, but if you're waiting outside, you might want to consider finding another place. The line is so long that you might lose your lunch. Still, it's worth the wait for a delicious lunch.

Mandu Yukgaejang 12,000 Garlic Gukbap 10,500 Wow! The rice was so filling. A lot of Byeongcheon vegetable sundae. Hmm... Good value. The portions are generous. Taste: Rich, perfect for hangovers. It's crowded, so I'll have to hurry.

Sundaeguk is average. The taste isn't bad. You order at the entrance and are assigned a seat. There might be a wait during lunch hours. The dining room is small, so the tables are spaced closely together, which can be a bit uncomfortable. The kimchi and radish kimchi are average, and additional side dishes are self-serve.
