Known for Japanese cuisine, this spot draws diners from across Seoul.
8 min walk from Sangbong Station Station.
Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.
Jungnang-gu is a residential district in northeastern Seoul with a working-class food culture built around affordable staples. Local markets, gukbap restaurants, and neighbourhood bunsik shops form the backbone of a dining scene that prioritises value and familiarity.

Rare cuts like tuna head, jowls, belly, and flesh are included in each course, allowing you to savor a variety of textures and flavors. The chef's personal greeting and interaction with guests adds a special touch. The raw tuna butchering show is visually stunning, and you'll be amazed by the freshness of the tuna and the skillful butchering technique. True to its reputation as a high-end tuna restaurant, course prices range from 35,000 won to 80,000 won, allowing you to choose the perfect meal to suit your taste and budget. Takeout reservations are also available, and four hours of free parking ensures a convenient visit. It's a perfect place for company dinners, dates, and family outings, making it a top-rated tuna restaurant in the Hongdae and Gangbuk areas. The quality of the tuna is unparalleled in Seoul, and the cuts served are truly exceptional. The owner personally prepares the tuna, and the quality is excellent. Moreover, he personally butchers the tuna, so you can trust him. First of all, you can eat fresh tuna here, not frozen tuna. I go all the way from Hongdae to Sangbong to get there. They often have events like sake service and tuna butchering shows, so I check the Naver Map updates and go there whenever they're available. Visited on 20240413 I visited alone for dinner and had the special tuna sushi (30,000 won) + @. The sashimi dishes change every time. This time, I was amazed by the red crab soup, soy sauce marinated tuna, and soy sauce shrimp. The soup, which contained a whole red crab, had a huge shiitake mushroom, and the flavor was incredible. Besides the tuna sushi, the other tsukidashi dishes were so excellent that I ordered more and tried the red crab soup with udon noodles. The small kimbap with garlic stems was also fragrant and delicious. The shari (pickled rice) was well-seasoned, and the crunchy texture of the stems was simply exquisite. I couldn't get enough of the sushi, so I ordered a special course for one (45,000 won). They even provided me with kamtae (seaweed) and dried laver. They even refilled side dishes like white kimchi. This is a regular tuna restaurant that always impresses me. Visit 20250501 The menu is always diverse and diverse with each visit. This time, I was particularly impressed by the fried pork cutlet, grilled scallops, and udon red crab soup. Visit 20250608 Located a five-minute walk from Sangbong Station, Tuna King Yang Seung-ho is run by Korea's first tuna master. As a special event, they held a live tuna butchering show of a 245kg live tuna. The butchering show was available by reservation or by passing by, and there was also a chance to sample the food for free. The performances and explanations are impressive, as they've been featured numerous times on TV shows like "You Quiz." The signature menu item is the tuna course, starting at 55,000 won per person. It offers a variety of raw tuna cuts, with up to two refills. The course includes side dishes, porridge, various tuna cuts, soup, fried food, and sushi. The restaurant's high partitions create a private atmosphere, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. Enjoy the fresh tuna while listening to the chef's witty banter, making it a recommended choice for tuna enthusiasts. Revisited on 250724 🍣 Tuna King Yang Seung-ho: Meet the elegance of Korea's tuna master at Sangbong Station! 🍣 A true master known as the "Bluefin Tuna Master," he's a legend in tuna cutting shows. He's also appeared on numerous TV shows like "You Quiz," and his "Raw Tuna Cutting Show" has become a hot topic on social media and YouTube. Here, we were able to experience a truly special event: a 245kg raw tuna cutting show. You can reserve a spot for the tuna butchering show in advance, or if you're lucky, you can even watch it without a reservation right in front of the restaurant. Free tastings are also provided, so tuna enthusiasts, don't miss this opportunity! The show provided a firsthand explanation of each tuna cut and a captivating performance by the chef, making it a truly memorable experience.
