About 일식

Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.

About Gwangjin-Gu

Gwangjin-gu's Konkuk University area has a dense concentration of restaurants catering to students — affordable, diverse, and open late. The area is a reliable destination for budget Korean dining: tteokbokki, kimbap, and pork cutlet restaurants line the streets near the university gates.

This is a review written after visiting more than 5 times 😄 I ordered the Lunch Set (11,000 won)! It comes with miso soup + salad + a plate of sushi + udon. The sushi and udon are even tastier than what I've had in Japan! I'm a sushi fanatic, and I feel like this is the place I want to settle down at now. The sashimi slices were thick, giving them a great chewy texture, and they were fresh. The rice was seasoned just right, and I liked that the pickled ginger and rakkyo were served in a self-serve style, making it convenient to add more if I ran out while eating. Also, the udon has a unique flavor specific to Baek Chef Sushi, and it keeps coming back to me, so I find myself visiting on cold days! It's delicious because it has a little bit of scorched rice in it, adding interesting textures. For reference, if you visit during dinner time, they sometimes leave scorched rice in a bag for you to take home for free. However, it was disappointing that the female staff member serving us responded with an attitude that was somewhere between indifferent and unfriendly. For example, I was looking at the menu after placing my order when the staff casually put it away. I felt awkward calling them over, so I just took it back to look at it, but about 30 seconds later, they tried to take it away again. I wouldn't have felt offended if they had asked, "Would you like me to clear the menu?" or something similar. However, since they often responded to customers without saying a word while looking elsewhere, I didn't feel respected as a customer. Nevertheless, it is a really delicious sushi restaurant, so I want to visit often. I left this review because I believe that if these aspects are improved, my dining experience will leave an even better memory.
