Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.
Jongno-gu is the historic heart of Seoul, containing Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village, and Insadong's antique street. The area balances ancient and modern — traditional Korean restaurants, teahouses, and street food vendors operate alongside contemporary galleries and specialty coffee shops. Eating here feels like a connection to centuries of Seoul food culture.

View all →Fyi I was here in 2022 so my review is definitely outdated but I have been thinking about their food and service alot since then. I was there with my American partner and when we couldn’t figure out what to order because we wanted to try various hongeo dishes, the owner/chef suggested they would offer us different dishes not on their menu using different parts of hongeo for a reasonable price. We ended up trying everything from hongeo cheek, to nose in ramyun and raw hongeo liver for tasting, as well as the more commonly known fermented slices. Their service and hospitality went above and beyond as was the food. They also had a housebrewed makgeolli. It’s not a touristy restaurant, so if you’re willing to appreciate different types of rare hongeo dishes they’re more than willing to accommodate well-meaning culinary curiosity. Would 100% go back when I’m in Korea next time.
