About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Jungnang-Gu

Jungnang-gu is a residential district in northeastern Seoul with a working-class food culture built around affordable staples. Local markets, gukbap restaurants, and neighbourhood bunsik shops form the backbone of a dining scene that prioritises value and familiarity.

A traditional Gamjatang restaurant serving one of the best pork back boned soup. This Gamjatang soup contains lesser or no perilla leaves powder, the soup is simply delicious pork bone broth with flavorful pork. For those who dont like Koarean perilla, you will like this soup! They will serve according to no. of paxs - small for 1 pax, medium for 2 -3 paxs and large 3 -4 paxs. Menu is mainly Gamjatang which you can add ramen or bowl of rice to go with the soup, or have them to fried rice with leftover soup. Prepare to take off shoes and seat cross legged if you are directed to 2nd floor as 1st floor only sits about 16 paxs. If you love Korean Gamjatang, this will be the best in Seoul!

I visited this place with high expectations because of its Michelin reputation, but I was deeply disappointed. • The Food: The Gamjatang (pork bone soup) is mild and not spicy, which might appeal to foreigners, but the portion size is very small for the price. Honestly, there are many other places that serve much better Gamjatang for a fairer price. • The Service: This was the most frustrating part. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy and the staff didn't seem rushed, they were very unkind. 1. When I asked for an extra ladle, the server snapped at me, saying they had already provided one. 2. When I asked for an extra side plate, my request was ignored, and I was met with an unnecessary attitude instead. It felt like they are mostly targeting tourists who don't know better. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for authentic Korean hospitality and value for money.

After a long walk from the Korean War Memorial we were ready for something good to eat. You can see why this place has been around forever: Pleasant room, really nice people, terrific food. We speak no Korean, and they had no English, but the menus were great and our server was really helpful. They lent us some cut aprons too. The Gamjatang was a deeply satisfying, comforting dish of pork neck and potatoes. The bone broth was memorable in it's depth and texture. Umami is an overused word these days, but this was a glorious expression of it. You can make it as spicy as you want with the side dish of gochujang. Perfect spuds, enough meat on the bones to keep a hungry person happy. Then the finale: they take some of the remaining broth and make fried rice with in. This is over the top delicious, a knockout. We needed another long walk after this masterpiece. I can't say enough about it.
