Hannambudaejjigae

Had budae jjigae in Hannam-dong and the experience was excellent. We arrived quite late, but the owner still welcomed us warmly. Even though we were the last table of the night, the food was prepared with great care and didn’t feel rushed at all. The stew was flavorful and comforting, with a rich, savory broth — truly delicious. Great service and great food. Would definitely come back.

I visited the restaurant with my foreign friend, and we were served noticeably less rice—just up to the height shown in the photo—apparently because we’re foreigners and women. The table right next to us was a group of men, and they were given bowls filled to the top. The staff even asked them if they had enough rice. We didn’t get asked anything. It was the same dish at the same price, yet we were treated so differently. As a Korean, I felt really embarrassed. And honestly, it was the first time I’ve been given less food just because I’m a woman. I understand they might have served less rice because they often have foreign customers who leave leftovers, but if that’s the case, shouldn’t the price be adjusted too?

The spicy stew is simmered until the ingredients are tender and the flavors meld together, creating such warming and satisfying meal, best served with steamed rice! Also tried their spicy squid and pork, very tasty!
