About 한식

Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.

About Gwanak-Gu

Gwanak-gu's university population (Seoul National University is the dominant anchor) drives a food scene of affordable restaurants, study cafés, and late-night delivery options. The local food culture is young, budget-conscious, and diverse — students from across Korea bring their regional food preferences and the restaurant scene reflects this variety.

👍🏻 I absolutely loved the combination of the tofu samhap. The tender head meat, slightly sour stir-fried kimchi, and soft tofu were a perfect combination. 👍🏻 The accompanying radish kimchi was also delicious. It had an unusual flavor, as if it was homemade. 🍚 The fried rice was generous. Even one order could feed two people. 👍🏻 If you order the samhap, they give you a small portion of sundae gukbap, which was also nice. For two people, the small portion of the samhap and the fried rice would be just the right size (I ordered the medium portion and was very full).

Contrary to the restaurant's name, the recommended dish is the Tofu Samhap. It features stir-fried kimchi in a rich broth placed in the center, surrounded by pork head meat and tofu on the sides. The combination of flavors is quite good. If you order the small size, it is more than enough for two people—it overflows. It pairs perfectly with a glass of Makgeolli. The location is a bit inconvenient, about a 15-minute walk from Sillim Station. It is located on the roadside, so it is easy to find. I think I should try the Gamjatang next time.

Thursday, 5:30 PM. It was a particularly sunny day, so I worried the wait might be long, but my worries were unfounded. Three empty tables were nice. I sat down at a spacious table for four and ordered a large tofu samhap (doubu samgyeop) for two. This was the first time I'd ever seen this tofu samhap. Just look at it! It's the most delicious head meat I've ever had since I grew hair. The kimchi was delicious, and I couldn't find any fault with it. I'm used to tofu samhap, but this was something I'd never experienced before, something on a national level. I couldn't hide my happiness the whole time I was eating. Be sure to add some tofu! The price (3,000 won) wasn't bad either. Mission accomplished by topping off with some fried rice when you're almost out of food. The service was excellent, and I discovered this place today, making it a successful day. I want to keep it to myself. Clap clap clap
