Known for traditional Korean cuisine, this spot draws diners from across Seoul.
10 min walk from Cheonho Station Station.
Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.
Gangdong-gu in southeastern Seoul is a family-oriented district known for its community markets and traditional Korean restaurants. Cheonho Market offers one of Seoul's best selections of traditional banchan, grilled fish, and home-style Korean cooking away from the tourist circuit.

View all →I visited Geumdon Kimchi Village, located near Gangdong Station in Gangdong-gu. I happened to visit this place while looking for a place where I could enjoy a hearty meal without feeling overwhelmed, even alone. The kimchi stew I ordered was not overpowering, but rather had a perfect balance of acidity and deep savory flavor, perfectly satisfying the basics. The broth wasn't spicy, making it easy to eat, and the meat had a perfect ratio of fat to lean, giving it a wonderful chewy texture. However, the biggest draw here wasn't just the stew itself; it was the variety of ways to enjoy the meal. In particular, the fried egg service, where each person can prepare their own fried egg in a corner of the restaurant, was a welcome bonus for solo diners. The large bowl served rice, a warm fried egg, and a generous amount of seaweed flakes, along with the meat and kimchi, was a satisfying and filling meal.
