Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.
Nowon-gu in northeastern Seoul is a large residential district known for its community-focused dining culture. Local restaurants here serve the kinds of meals families eat daily — doenjang jjigae, guk-based soups, grilled fish — without the theatrics of trendier areas. It's a neighbourhood that rewards those looking for genuine everyday Korean food at prices that haven't been adjusted for tourists.
The store is clean, the owner and staff are friendly, and the food and service are so good that I come here often.
Visited in October 2024 This is Jeongdam Sushi Changdong, located near Miwha Bowling Alley. Three of us visited for lunch. We had the three-person set meal, and it was incredibly good value. Before the sushi, salad, porridge, and udon were served. FYI, the udon is unlimited refills. The sushi was neatly presented in one piece. They also provided a complimentary fermented kimchi battleship, croquette, and fried eggplant sushi. The portions were generous, and the udon was even refillable!! In this era of high prices, this is a truly lovely restaurant. However, the food was slow to arrive. You'll need to be patient and wait. Transportation isn't convenient. It's a great place for locals. #JeongdamSushi #ChangdongRestaurant #SushiRestaurant
