Bunsik — Korean street-food snacks — evolved as affordable, filling fare for students and workers after the Korean War. Tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), kimbap (seaweed rice rolls), sundae (blood sausage), and odeng (fish cake skewers in broth) are the staples. Most bunsik restaurants are fast, casual, and open late, making them a go-to for a quick hot meal at any hour.
Songpa-gu includes Jamsil, Olympic Park, and Lotte World Tower — one of the world's tallest buildings and a major tourism hub. The food scene is family-friendly and commercially vibrant: department store food halls, international chains, and Korean comfort food restaurants that cater to the large residential population. Lotte World Mall's food floor alone contains dozens of notable dining options.

View all →My experience at this restaurant was disappointing, both in terms of service and food quality. From the moment I placed my order, the staff member’s attitude felt unusually cold and unwelcoming. After I finished my meal, I had briefly placed my used mask next to a napkin on the table. Even though I was already wearing a new mask, the staff member approached me and asked, “Aren’t you going to wear your mask?” in a tone that sounded accusatory rather than informative. It felt less like a polite reminder and more like I was being scolded for something I didn’t do wrong. Basic customer service and communication etiquette seemed to be lacking, and the interaction left a very unpleasant impression. The food was also disappointing. The bibimbap was overwhelmingly spicy with no balance or depth of flavor. The gochujang tasted like a generic store-bought product, lacking the richness, aroma, and layered seasoning that you would expect from a restaurant. The overall combination of ingredients didn’t come together well, making the dish far from satisfying. Overall, this visit was not enjoyable, and I do not have plans to return given the poor service and underwhelming food quality.
This kimbap restaurant, "서울김밥" (Seong-won), located in Songpa-gu, has pretty good online reviews! I went directly to the restaurant and ordered a ham kimbap (햄김밥). There's no self-service ordering machine; you just ask the staff what you want to order. This ham kimbap cost ₩5,000 won, a little more expensive than I expected! I think it's because they added too much cucumber, which completely overshadowed the ham; I couldn't really taste the main ingredient, "ham," at all! 😂 It's probably just my personal taste; I don't really like cucumber and prefer the kind with spinach. Haha!
