Jung-gu sits at the geographic and commercial center of Seoul, encompassing Myeongdong (K-beauty and street food), Namdaemun Market, and the financial district. The food here spans the full range — from tourist-facing street stalls in Myeongdong to understated lunch joints serving office workers, and traditional Korean restaurants that have operated for decades without needing to advertise.
A restaurant that specialises in Pyongyang cold noodle. The cold noodle broth was very clear and tasty. There is also a broth-less cold noodle. The cold pork was superb. Friendly staff. English menu available. This restaurant is on the pricer side.
Located near Namdaemun Market, 'Seoryung' has solidified its reputation by being selected for the 2025 Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand. This is not just a place to visit for its fame, but a restaurant where you can truly appreciate the value of authentic cuisine. The culinary expertise of the husband-and-wife owners, honed over a long journey from Hongcheon to Ganghwa Island and finally to Seoul, is fully present in every dish. Main Dish : The 'Sunmyeon' (Buckwheat Noodles) The undisputed star of the show at Seoryung is the "Sunmyeon," or pure buckwheat noodles. Made with 100% pure buckwheat, the noodles themselves boast a deep and nutty flavor. The broth, subtly seasoned to highlight the natural taste of the noodles without any overpowering flavors, leaves a delicate umami finish on the palate. It strikes a perfect balance—familiar to Pyongyang Naengmyeon (North Korean cold noodle) enthusiasts yet approachable for first-timers. The true strength of this restaurant lies in its ability to maintain the inherent buckwheat flavor, even when the dish is varied with perilla oil or a spicy seasoning. Side Dishes : 'Hangjeong Jeyuk' (Pork Jowl) and Dumplings The "Hangjeong Jeyuk," or boiled pork jowl, served alongside the noodles is another highlight. The rich, savory fat of the pork jowl combined with the tender meat creates a fantastic harmony with the noodles. It's clean-tasting and wonderfully moist. The only downside is its immense popularity; it often sells out by lunchtime. Many reviews suggest that you must "open run" (arrive at opening time) to secure an order. The dumplings, also available as a side, are simple and savory, further enhancing the flavor of the buckwheat noodles. Seoryung is a restaurant that prioritizes the fundamentals over flashy presentations. The exquisite buckwheat noodles and the meticulously prepared dishes, refined over 25 years, more than justify its inclusion in the Michelin Bib Gourmand list. Worth the 1.5hr queue. The staff were very friendly, all the dishes were delicious. Deulgireum noodle was on point, cold noodle could be mild for people who are not used to Pyongyang naengmyun but should still give it a try, dumplings were big and juicy, and the meat is a must!!!
