Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.
Gwangjin-gu's Konkuk University area has a dense concentration of restaurants catering to students — affordable, diverse, and open late. The area is a reliable destination for budget Korean dining: tteokbokki, kimbap, and pork cutlet restaurants line the streets near the university gates.
First time having 성게미역국 and it was delicious!! Can recommend the grilled fish wholeheartedly, too.
I went out to eat alone. It's so delicious with braised mackerel and pickled cutlassfish wrapped in seaweed. Haha. Braised mackerel costs 10,000 won per person. The price is reasonable, and the side dishes are delicious. I highly recommend it!
