Japanese cuisine has deep roots in Seoul, shaped by geographic proximity and a long shared history. Seoul-style Japanese restaurants range from affordable sushi conveyor belts and ramen shops to high-end omakase counters. Quality fish is flown in daily, and Korean chefs often put their own spin on Japanese classics — thicker broths, spicier condiments, and seasonal Korean ingredients woven into traditional recipes.
Eunpyeong-gu sits at the northwestern edge of Seoul, where the city meets the mountains of Bukhansan National Park. The area has a quiet, residential character with a food scene that reflects its local community — traditional Korean home-style cooking, neighbourhood pojangmacha, and teahouses tucked between hiking trail entrances.
I went here after being recommended by Dongyang Real Estate. They only have three hoe-deopbap (raw fish rice bowl) options. I ordered the salmon hoe-deopbap (17,000 won). I went at 5 p.m., so it was quiet and pleasant. The hoe-deopbap is topped with fresh salmon, flying fish roe, various vegetables, and seaweed. The side dishes include dried radish kimchi, white kimchi, steamed egg, codfish stew, and seaweed. I took a sip of the codfish stew, and it was perfect for a rainy day. The steamed egg was also very smooth. I added a little gochujang (red chili pepper paste) and mixed it with my chopsticks. The salmon sashimi can also be wrapped in seaweed. The vegetables were plentiful and delicious. They say you can tell them what's missing, but this was more than enough for me. It's a very healthy dish. I had no idea there was a restaurant like this in Yeokchon-dong. The salmon hoe-deopbap is clean, simple, and beautifully presented, like a painting. I'll definitely be back. It was a joy to see such a beautiful meal after so long. Today is a special day for me, so I think it will be more memorable.
Wow, this place is crazy. In this day and age, omakase on weekend dinners is around 30,000 won, but the sushi is thick and comes with sashimi, and it's really delicious. And the corkage is also very cheap at 10,000 won! I really want to keep this to myself, but I'm writing this review because I hope the owner's business goes well!!!
