Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.
Gwanak-gu's university population (Seoul National University is the dominant anchor) drives a food scene of affordable restaurants, study cafés, and late-night delivery options. The local food culture is young, budget-conscious, and diverse — students from across Korea bring their regional food preferences and the restaurant scene reflects this variety.
Since it's near my friend's house, we all went there for a meal and I totally fell in love with it. If you call, they'll prepare the spicy stir-fried chicken in advance, and they're super, super, super kind. I ate the scrambled eggs and the spicy stir-fried chicken so deliciously. The ketchup art on the scrambled eggs was so cute and touching. Ahhhh, the makgeolli was delicious too!!! Thanks to the cheerful owner, we all had a great time. I'll come again! The best, the best
I'd been here before after hiking Gwanaksan Mountain a while ago, but it's been a while since I've been here, so I decided to have my year-end party here. I made a reservation in advance, and since there were four of us, I ordered the special set (55,000 won), and the spicy stir-fried chicken was waiting for me. It was nice that they kept it covered to prevent dust, and I didn't have to wait to eat. You can order the spicy stir-fried chicken (40,000 won) and chive pancakes or kimchi pancakes (17,000 won) separately, so the set is 2,000 won cheaper. The chicken breast is well-cooked, and the seasoning is well-infused, making it delicious. The broth is not thick, but rather clear and spicy, making it a great accompaniment to drinks. Whether it's a side dish or a snack, the bean sprouts and soybean paste stew are also delicious. The handwritten note on the fried egg was impressive. It wasn't a special occasion, but seeing the handwritten note made it feel special, which made me feel good. For the set menu, I chose the kimchi pancakes after finishing the spicy stir-fried chicken. They were crispy. I also added two servings of fried rice (3,000 won), a must-have for any soup dish. It was so delicious I would have missed it. The interior has a friendly, traditional tavern-like atmosphere, but the seating was a bit uncomfortable. Next time I make a reservation, I'll reserve a table. The restrooms are separated by gender. The men's restroom is inside, but the women's restroom is on the second floor. I'm curious about the spicy stir-fried chicken, but I can't try it because I'm craving spicy stir-fried chicken. Anyway, this place is definitely famous for its spicy stir-fried chicken and fried rice. Soju 5,000 won Beer 6,000 won Cheongha 6,000 won Makgeolli 5,000 won
- It was delicious, but nothing particularly special. I guess my expectations were too high because of the great reviews. - The owner and staff were all friendly. - It's located in the basement, and it has a tavern-like atmosphere. It felt more like a place to drink than eat. In fact, more people came for the drinks! The food was good, but not exceptionally special—maybe my expectations were too high because of all the great reviews. The owner and staff were all very friendly, which I really appreciated. It's located in the basement and has a cozy, traditional tavern vibe. It felt more like a place to enjoy drinks rather than a full meal, and most people there seemed to be drinking too!
