Udon Kaden in Hapjeong — A Chef from Culinary Class Wars 2's Udon Restaurant Review

Hidden on a quiet alley just a short walk from Hapjeong Station, Udon Kaden has become one of the most talked-about udon spots in western Seoul — and for good reason. The restaurant is run by a chef who appeared on Culinary Class Wars Season 2, the wildly popular cooking competition that reignited Korea's love affair with chef-driven casual dining.

The menu is tight and intentional. The star of the show is the Mentaiko Cream Udon — thick, chewy noodles coated in a silky cod roe cream sauce that manages to be rich without feeling heavy. The brininess of the mentaiko cuts through the cream perfectly, making every bite deeply satisfying.

Close behind is the Shrimp Tempura Bukkake Udon, served cold with a light, umami-forward dashi broth poured tableside. The tempura shrimp arrives crisp and golden, and the contrast between the cold noodles and warm broth is genuinely refreshing. If you're sharing, order the Chicken Karaage as a side; the pieces are juicy inside, shatteringly crisp outside, and come with a punchy house sauce that keeps you reaching back in.

The space itself is small and unfussy — counter seating, clean wooden surfaces, a kitchen you can watch from your seat. It feels like the chef wanted the food to do all the talking, and it does. Service is efficient and friendly even during the lunchtime rush.

A few practical notes: Udon Kaden runs a break time between 14:40 and 17:30, so plan your visit for a proper lunch or dinner slot. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Expect a short wait during peak hours — the lines form early and the space fills up fast. There is currently no English menu, so having a translation app handy is useful if you're ordering without Korean.

For K-drama fans and food lovers exploring the Hongdae and Hapjeong neighbourhood, Udon Kaden is an easy detour worth building your afternoon around.
