Korean cuisine (hansik) is built around balance — fermented sides (banchan), a steaming bowl of rice, and a main dish that changes with the season. Meals are served all at once rather than in courses, and sharing dishes at the table is the norm. The depth of flavor comes from slow-fermented pastes like doenjang (soybean) and gochujang (chili), which form the backbone of soups, stews, and marinades across the country.
Dongdaemun-gu is a 24-hour neighbourhood defined by its massive fashion markets, which draw wholesale buyers and night shoppers around the clock. The food scene is fast, cheap, and designed for people who eat at unconventional hours — naengmyeon restaurants that open at midnight, pojangmacha that come alive at 3am, and kalguksu shops that have served the same recipe for fifty years.
I ordered the Yangseonji Haejangguk (9,900 won). It's served plain, but you can increase the spiciness by adding chili oil, red pepper powder, salt, and pepper. I liked the spicy kick better. I enjoyed a bowl of haejangguk, which was clean and refreshing, without any gamey smell. The side dishes are self-service. I think there were five kinds of kimchi and pickled vegetables, plus two or three side dishes. It was great because I could eat without worrying about what others thought. I'll be back for lunch next time (there's a bit of a wait).

It's hard to find restaurants open late these days, but since they were open past 9:00 PM, it was a great place to visit late after a long time. They had a wide variety of hangover soup and other menu items, so my group and I each ordered according to our individual tastes. We also prepared side dishes from the self-service bar. The variety of side dishes was great, and we could eat as much as we wanted. The hangover soup arrived without a long wait, and it was still delicious and generous. It was delicious and filling. Above all, it's a great value restaurant, so I'm always satisfied with my visits. ^^ Have a nice meal!
