Overview
Namsan Park is located in downtown Seoul and serves as a natural retreat that offers citizens fresh air. It is also a hub for leisure activities, where you can use facilities like N Seoul Tower and Namsan Cable Car, as well as walk, exercise, and relax. The official name of Namsan Park is Namsan Urban Nature Park. Namsan is a symbol of Seoul located in the center of the city. Its original name was In-gyeongsan, but after King Taejo of the Joseon Dynasty moved the capital from Kaesong to Seoul, it was named 'Namsan' because it is a southern mountain. It is also an important mountain in terms of feng shui, classified as an Ansan. From 1991, over eight years under the 'Namsan Festival Appearance Enhancement' project, 89 negative facilities were relocated and an outdoor botanical garden was created. The areas around Yejang-dong and Hoehyeon-dong in Jung-gu and Hannam-dong in Yongsan-gu were extensively restored and maintained, providing citizens with rest and fresh air, and transforming the park into a center for leisure activities. On the way up to the Namsan Tower observatory, there is a famous attraction of Namsan Park, the 'Love Lock.' Many locks are already locked to symbolize protecting the love of lovers. Reading the phrases written on countless locks as you walk is a small part of the fun. From May 1, 2005, regular passenger cars and taxis were prohibited from entering Namsan Park. To reach Namsan Seoul Tower, you can take the circular bus or Namsan Cable Car from Myeongdong, Chungmuro, or Dongdae University Station, or hike up on foot along the way.
