Overview
Dobong Seowon is the most representative Seowon in Seoul today, where renowned poets such as Baek Lee Hang-bok left behind poetic writings, including Jo Gwangjo and Song Si-yeol, who were the most representative Neo-Confucian scholars of the early and late Joseon period. Although most of the ruins were destroyed by the 1871 Seowon Abolition Order, unlike other seowon in Seoul, the foundation of the shrine and the group of inscriptions introduced as Dobong Seowon ruins in old historical records mostly remain in their original form, allowing the boundaries of the ruins to be clearly confirmed. Moreover, setting these sites aside, it is considered a scenic spot long regarded in various documents and poetry as a scenic spot, making it highly valuable for preservation.
