Dangyeonggol Resort
단경골 휴양지
Located 16 km southeast of Gangneung City Hall, Dangyeonggol Valley follows the upper reaches of the Gunseong River with clear water, unique rock formations, and beautiful landscapes, making it a perfect quiet and cozy retreat. It is said that the name Dangyeonggol came to be after the fall of the Goryeo dynasty. When the Joseon Dynasty was established, dozens of loyal Goryeo officials including Choe Mun-han, Kim Jung-han, Lee Jang-mil, and Kim Gyeong fled here. It is said that they built an altar in Gulsan-dong to seal the Goryeo royal ancestral shrine, called the royal altar, and King U also performed rites together. When the creation of the fish group was discovered, the Yushin hid in Dangyeonggol, a remote mountain valley, with their sappai enshrined, but eventually they dispersed after enshrineing the sapae at Seokbyeongsan Mountain behind Dangyeonggol, naming it Gaedongmyeongdangyeong [改洞名檀京]. More than 10,000 vacationers visit every year, and the Eonbyeolri Senior Association manages the area under contract. It is about 25 km from downtown; you can take the city bus (number 116) bound for Eonbyeol-ri, get off at the last stop, and walk in. Since 1998, it has operated a comprehensive campground, equipped with parking lots, campsites, and water stations, making it convenient to use. Nearby are Anin Beach, Deungmyeong Beach, Unification Park, and Songdam Seowon, making it a great place to enjoy valleys, the sea, and cultural heritage as a popular retreat.
