Overview
It is said that while Yun Dong-ju was a student in the liberal arts department at Yeonhui College, he boarded with his literary friend Jeong Byeong-uk at the home of novelist Kim Song (1909–1988) in Nusang-dong, Jongno-gu, and often climbed Inwangsan to refine his poetic sensibility in nature. Many of the poet's representative works, including "Night of Counting Stars," "Self-Portrait," and "Another Home," were written during this period. The Yun Dong-ju Literary Museum was established in 2012 to remember the footsteps of Yun Dong-ju, a national resistance poet beloved by Koreans, and his way of seeing the world. The museum is a thoughtful remodeling of the abandoned Cheongun water pressure station and water tank at the foot of Inwangsan. It received the Korea Public Architecture Award in 2012 and the Seoul Architecture Award in 2014, and was designated as a national memorial facility in 2015, drawing attention for both its spatial value and its significance.
