Overview
Yeouido Park, which opened in 1971 on the site of the former runway as Yeouido Plaza, serves as a space for various national events and leisure activities. In January 1999, the black asphalt was removed and it was reborn as a green rest area. It is adjacent to broadcasting and securities markets, Nodeul Ferry where Han River cruise ships arrive and depart, and the 63 Building, making it a cultural space where anyone can easily experience nature and enjoy leisure and relaxation. The park features a natural ecological forest, a cultural square, a lawn field, and a traditional Korean forest. A C-47 transport aircraft is on display, and there are convenience facilities such as a convenience store, restrooms, and inline skate rental stations. A natural ecological forest is a green space created so that the structure and functions of the natural ecosystem can be reproduced by nature itself. Various creatures live around the pond, allowing visitors to understand and learn about nature within the city. The Cultural Square is a place where various events and performances are held where citizens can participate together. Additionally, inside the plaza, there is a Taegeukgi flagpole and an airplane monument commemorating the Air Force, making it a meaningful location. The lawn courtyard, built on a low hill where citizens can rest comfortably, consists of lawns, walking paths, and a small pond. Additionally, evergreens and deciduous trees are planted around the lawn so you can enjoy the changing greenery of the four seasons together. The space, which recreates a traditional Korean forest, allows you to feel the tranquil atmosphere of Korea. It is a place where Jidang embraces three small artificial islands symbolizing Seoul's past, present, and future, and Samojeong, where you can beautifully overlook Jidang. There is also Yeouijeong, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the traditional forest. The location where the C-47 aircraft exhibition hall is located is where the C-47 landed. On August 18, 1945, it landed in Yeouido aboard the Korean Liberation Army Advance Unit along with the American OSS unit. This is where the Korean Liberation Army arrived in Seoul just three days after liberation. The walking and bicycle paths of Yeouido Park are designed to circulate around the park's outer perimeter, and are connected to Hangang Citizen Park via an underground walkway located at Entrance 9.
