Overview
Yangcheon Fortress Site is a Temoe-style mountain fortress built around the summit of Gungsan in Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, surrounding the main ridge and the upper part of the Gayeong Ridge line. Gungsan was located at the confluence of Anyangcheon and the Han River, serving as an important fortress defending the lower reaches of the Han River. The fortress features a steep slope facing the Han River on the north side and a gentle slope on the south side. The castle is about 220 meters long and covers an area of 29,370㎡. Records of the fortress remain in several old sources such as 『Sinjeung Dongguk Yeoji Seungnam』, 『Yeoji Jidoseo』, and 『Daedong Jiji』, and traces of the fortress walls such as Jeoksimseok and Seongseok can also be confirmed. It is said that during the Imjin War, General Kwon Yul stayed here and crossed the Han River to achieve victory at Haengju Fortress. Along with Haengju Fortress and Odu Fortress, it holds significant importance as a key stronghold for defending the Han River.
