Overview
The Seoul National University Museum was established in 1946, together with the founding of Seoul National University, and continues active research, preservation, excavation, and collecting. It holds about 8,000 items across fields such as archaeology and history, traditional art, and anthropology and folklore, five of which are designated as Treasures of Korea, including the Gonyeo Manguk Jeondo (Complete Map of the World), the Chaseungja chongtong gun, the paintings Namji Girohoedo and Dokseodang Gyehoedo, and the Thousand Character Classic in regular script by Sin Wi. Since the 1960s the museum has carried out more than 150 excavation surveys with important archaeological results, and it also holds special exhibitions every year and public lecture courses each semester.
