Overview
Jongno-gu has three famous parks. Tapgol Park, Sajik Park, and Samcheong Park are among them. Sajik Park, located west of the Government Complex and on the southeastern slope of Inwangsan, covers a total area of 188,710㎡. It was built in the heart of the Sajik Shrine (historic site), which was first established by King Taejo of Joseon Yi Seong-gye in 1395 along with Jongmyo Shrine. Looking at the meaning of the word Sajik, 'Sa' means the god of the earth and 'Jik' is the god of the five grains. Sajikdan is a place where rituals were held to pray for a good harvest. It includes a children's playground, statues of Yulgok Yi Yi and Shin Saimdang, Hwalteo (Hwanghakjeong), and the municipal children's library, with Dangun Temple and Jongno Library nearby. If you walk about five minutes along the Inwangsan trail next to Sajik Park, you'll reach the Inwangsan hiking trail.
