Overview
The Namsan Library of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education was the first public library in Seoul. It opened in 1922, relocated to its current location in 1964 with a new building, and the following year, in 1965, the library was renamed Namsan Library to its current name. The reinforced concrete building, constructed in 1964, was the work of architect Lee Hae-sung and was recognized for its preservation value, being registered as a Seoul Future Heritage Site in 2013. The vast collection of 500,000 volumes held by Namsan Library is organized into four thematic sections (Humanities and Social Sciences Department, Natural Sciences Department, Literature Room/Korean Literature Resource Room, Bibliotherapy & Language Room).
