Overview
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, where the Modern and Contemporary History Memorial Hall is located, is a sacred site of independence spirit and democracy, home to Bonghwanggak, the birthplace of the March 1st Movement, the burial grounds of patriotic martyrs, and the National April 19 Democratic Cemetery. To properly remember and spread the noble intentions of our ancestors, the exhibition features our proud history from the Donghak Peasant Movement to the April 19 Revolution. The museum opened in May 2016 to convey through moving narratives that the ideals of 'freedom,' 'equality,' and 'democracy' are precious values that our ancestors painstakingly embodied and accumulated, thereby promoting that 'the country dreamed of by independence activists' and 'the country longed for by the fighters of the April Revolution' is the vision for the future of Korea. Every year, new special exhibitions and historical experience programs are held.
