Overview
The March 1st Independence Movement Memorial Tower was built in Namsan Park, Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, by gathering the sincerity of all our people to inherit and develop the noble spirit of the March 1st Independence Movement, which was waged for the independence of the homeland and people from the brutal colonial rule of Japanese imperialism, and to widely promote the nation's patriotism and patriotism. Construction began on August 15, 1998, marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Korea, and was completed on March 1, 1999, the 80th anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement. The tower stands 19 meters tall and 19 cm tall, which refers to the anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement, 1919. The March 1st Independence Movement was the world's first nonviolent peace movement and the first religious union movement of Cheondoism, Christianity, and Buddhism. It became the starting point for nonviolent peace movements worldwide, including China's May Fourth Movement and India's Non-Resistance Movement. It is located 920 meters from Exit 6 of Dongdae Station on Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 3.
