Overview
The Han Sang-su Embroidery Museum is an embroidery research institute founded by Han Sang-soo, holder of National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 80 and a skilled embroidery master. To widely promote Korean embroidery, in 2005 it was registered as Seoul's 20th private museum in Bukchon Hanok Village, Gahoe-dong, Jongno-gu, and was responsible for training curators and volunteers. After the passing of the first director Han Sang-soo in 2016, he devoted his life to the preservation and development of Korean embroidery, and to widely promote his works and spirit as a leader in the Korean embroidery world, the shrine was relocated to Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, where the Seonjamdan site is located. The main building operates the Hansang Embroidery Cultural Heritage Academy for reservations for permanent exhibitions, experiential and educational activities, exchange exhibitions, restoration contracts, and academic research. Free admission allows you to listen to commentary and participate in a one-day embroidery experience in addition to academy classes, allowing you to try traditional stitching. It is located 700 meters from Exit 6 of Hansung University Station on Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 4, and nearby Seongbuk-dong is the old downtown area, offering plenty to see.
