Overview
Haebangchon came to be called Haebangchon after liberation in 1945, when displaced persons who left their hometowns, people returning from overseas, and those fleeing the war settled on the hills beneath Namsan. Located around Namsan in Seoul, the village spans Yongsan-dong 1-ga and Yongsan-dong 2-ga, and Haebangchon, a representative hillside neighborhood in Seoul, was selected as the Yongsan Redevelopment District in 1979 for housing construction, but it has maintained the appearance of a hillside neighborhood with narrow alleys and hills. In 2021, through Yongsan-gu's urban regeneration project, the environment was improved so that tourists could explore the village through a themed experience, and a sloped elevator was installed at the landmark '108 Steps' in Haebangchon.
