Overview
Dongdaemun History and Culture Park is a park established on the site of the former Dongdaemun Stadium in Jung-gu, Seoul. It is a theme park showcasing Seoul's old history and culture, an exhibition hall and event hall where visitors can experience modern design and culture, and a relaxing space for citizens. In 2008, during the demolition of Dongdaemun Stadium and its use as a park, over 1,000 major artifacts were excavated, including the Igan Gate and Chiseong fortresses from the Joseon Dynasty Seoul walls, the sites of the Hadogam and Training Offices, 44 building sites, Joseon white porcelain and Buncheong ware, and ceramics such as Joseon white porcelain and buncheong ware. Excavated artifacts are preserved and displayed throughout the park. At the entrance to the park stands the Dongdaemun Stadium Memorial Hall. It exhibits memories of the old Dongdaemun Stadium, information on past sports events, various sports-related artifacts, and models of the old Dongdaemun Stadium. It is located 26 meters from Exit 1 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station on Metropolitan Subway Lines 2, 4, and 5. Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and Sindang-dong Tteokbokki Street are just a 10-minute walk away, making it a great place to explore together.
