Overview
Dongdaemun-gu in Seoul is located in the eastern part of Seoul, a village where the sun rises, serving as a key transportation hub in eastern Seoul and a place where history and tradition live alive. Dongdaemun-gu, a land with a long history, has been excavated from the prehistoric Neolithic era with comb-patterned pottery. Since ancient times, it has been the hometown of benevolence (benevolence), righteousness (righteousness), propriety, and wisdom, the first virtues representing the east. Geographically, it was also a prime site for royal farmland such as Jeonnong (Jeonnong) and tomb sites due to its abundant sunlight and wide bees. Opened in December 1998, the Dongdaemun Cultural Center is an institution founded by local leaders pooling their intentions through private funding, based on this history and tradition. Every year, the organization organizes local traditional cultural events such as the lively May in Dongdaemun-gu, the Chuseok Residents' Unity Folk Festival, and the Cheongryong Cultural Festival. It also hosts various cultural events including club performances, historical and cultural explorations, and literary contests, making every effort to promote cultural enjoyment for local residents. It serves as a cultural mediator for promoting Dongdaemun-gu's regional culture, which encompasses tradition, history, and modernity.
