Overview
'Bunbawi,' made of white marble, was called 'Bunbawi' by residents of Socheongdo because it looked as if the rock had been painted white, and from the moonlit night sea, it was also called 'Wolti' because Socheongdo was surrounded by a white band, and it served as a lighthouse. This bunbawi is a marble formed by the death and accumulation of coral organisms that once thrived in the Earth's warm seas, then metamorphosed under high-temperature, high-pressure conditions. In certain parts of this bunba, fossils called 'stromatolites' have been found, which are fossils of cyanobacteria (cyanobacteria) that supplied oxygen through photosynthesis on the primordial Earth. Locals called this stromatolite the 'Guldakji Stone,' and it is now the oldest fossil in South Korea and has been designated as Natural Monument No. 508.<출처 : 국가지질공원>
