Overview
Jumun-ri Village is the most central village in Jumunjin-eup. It is the most densely populated area with a commercial district and currently consists of 12 administrative villages. Originally, it was in the Sinri-myeon area of Gangneung County, called 'Jumun-eul,' but it was renamed 'Jumunjin' because there was a ferry where goods were ordered and transported. In 1916, following an administrative district reorganization, Geomuli, Bangkol, Bonggumi, Oritnaru, Yakyakgol, Yongso-dong, and Sodol were merged to form Jumunri. Later, with the opening of a new port, Sinri-myeon became Jumunjin-myeon in 1937. In November 1940, it was elevated to Jumunjin-eup, and on January 1, 1995, it was incorporated into the unified Gangneung City, becoming the current Jumun-ri Village. Nearby are Jumunjin Port, Jumunjin Hoe Center, Jumunjin Fishermen's Fish Market, and Jumunjin Stalls Traditional Market, where you can enjoy freshly caught live fish and seafood. Moreover, it has established itself as a representative tourist fishing village attraction with various attractions such as Baeho Song Monument and Son's Rock.
