Overview
Yeouido Saetgang Ecological Park is a place that maximizes the use of the natural environment from behind the National Assembly to the center of Gayang Bridge, where colonies of willows, reeds, and silver grass form the area. Using groundwater generated from the nearby subway system, a stream waterfall and pond were created, and wetland plants such as cattail, water parsley, and water hyacinth were planted nearby to improve water quality and adapt to the natural environment. This area features a bicycle path, walking paths, two parking lots, five bridges, two plazas, an information center, lawn, park golf course, ecological waterways, iris garden, willow forest, water purification garden, silver grass colony, and enclosed wetlands. It also operates ecological programs such as interpretation, nature observation, and nature play. The information center includes learning spaces, an ecological program operation room, and a firefly enclosure. Although the park is located in the heart of Seoul among a forest of buildings, it features fields where all kinds of wildflowers bloom, and a river where willow chives, minnows, and crucian carp live. Reeds and silver grass grow abundantly, creating a 6 km walking trail, with information boards about native plants installed every 20 to 30 meters. Rare flora and fauna such as the natural monument kestrel live here, as well as the white-cheeked duck, heron, violet, martz, and willow fish. To avoid harming nature, the ecological park has not installed benches or shops, nor streetlights for plants and animals to rest and sleep. It is available year-round, but access to certain sections may be restricted during the animals' spawning season. It is located 700 meters from Exit 1 of Yeouido Station on Seoul Metropolitan Subway Line 5.
