Overview
The Whanki Art Museum opened in Seoul in November 1992 in honor of the sign painting artist Kim Whanki and to contribute to the development of contemporary art, designed by architect Woo Kyu-seung. To widely promote the artistic world of Kim Whanki, a representative figure of Korean contemporary art, the museum publishes a special research exhibition and catalog every year. In addition to exhibitions of contemporary and contemporary artists such as 'Modern and Contemporary Artist Research,' 'People Met by Sign Painting,' 'Whanki Museum Space Project,' and 'Whanki Foundation Artist Exhibition,' the museum supports the creative activities of young artists active in various fields through the 'Free Whanki' contest. Additionally, through educational programs such as 'Art Program for Seniors with Dementia,' 'Art On,' and 'Art Think,' it serves as a public educational institution for civil society. This stems from the founder's belief that the magnificent artistic world left by artists will remain in history as part of our cultural heritage over time. Going forward, Whanki Art Museum will continue to work hard to realize its future vision: "The dream of a society that communicates through art."
