Overview
It is the first building constructed at Yonsei University, constructed in 1919 and completed in 1920, a two-story stone structure. Pastor Underwood (Korean name Won Doo-woo), founder of Yonhee College (predecessor of Yonsei University), returned to his hometown of the United States to build a permanent school with a donation from Charles Stimson, who lived in Los Angeles, and after his death, his successor, Avison, used that donation. Mrs. Underwood, the bereaved family, laid the foundation stone, and Miller, a professor of chemistry at the time, oversaw the construction. The designer is unknown, but it is said that American architects came to Korea at the time and drafted the design and basic plan. It has a rectangular floor plan with a gabled roof and is a Gothic architectural style.
