Overview
On September 28, 1950, when the South Korean Army recaptured Seoul and advanced north, they gathered student volunteers who had volunteered as artillery at Yongsan High School. Out of countless students, 341 were selected, departed Seoul on October 20, and arrived in Pyongyang on the 21st, where they were assigned to the 18th Artillery Battalion of the 17th Division. Afterwards, until the armistice on July 23, 1953, he was commissioned as an officer or served as a temporary personnel on the front lines, with 112 of them killed or missing. The Patriotic Student Tower was erected at Yongsan High School on October 23, 1956, to honor the spirit of 80 students from Yongsan High School who fought as artillery and many other military units who dedicated their youthful youth to the homeland. The Seoul Student Soldiers Memorial was erected on October 20, 2005, by the Seoul Student Artillery Comrades Branch to commemorate the 55th anniversary of their service, aiming to pass on the noble spirit of sacrifice of the student volunteers who fought to defend the 'Homeland and Liberal Democracy' to future generations. The Seoul Student Artillery Veterans Monument was erected on October 20, 2015, by the Seoul Student Artillery Comrades Branch to commemorate the 65th anniversary of their service. The names of 341 student volunteer soldiers from Seoul who participated as artillery were inscribed after a dispatch ceremony at Yongsan High School on October 20, 1950. Organized by the Seoul Student Artillery Comrades Association, Yongsan High School, and Yongsan High School Alumni Association, commemorative ceremonies are held every June and October to honor the noble patriotic spirit of student volunteers.
