Overview
Located at the foot of Mapo Wausan, Gwangheungdang is a hanok cultural space to the right of the Gongminwang Shrine, offering various programs to remind people of the importance of traditional culture. It operates educational programs for discovering and exhibiting local historical materials from Mapo-gu, as well as for youth. On Jeongwol Daeboreum, folk games such as kite flying, Jisin stepping, stone jeon, and Cheoksa competitions are held, reflecting pre-modern customs and lifestyles. On Coming-of-Age Day, a traditional coming-of-age ceremony is held, along with various events such as the Gugak Festival and the Mapo Gugak Echo performance to promote traditional Korean gugak. Additionally, the Gongminwang Shrine System has been developed into a venue for community harmony and festivals, and cultural classes such as jangguban, pansori, and gukseondo are offered for a fee.
