Overview
The Ewha Womans University Natural History Museum was established on November 20, 1969, as the first in Korea to contribute to school and social education about nature. The Natural History Museum is a living educational center for natural history in the city, featuring diorama exhibits that recreate various specimens of animals, plants, minerals, rocks, and fossils, an ecological corner for observing living animals, and video facilities for experiencing natural environments through video footage. It conducts pure academic research related to natural history, collects, preserves, exhibits, and studies animals, plants, minerals, rocks, and fossils, investigates endangered species, and holds and exhibits numerous rare specimens including natural monuments, international protected species, and endemic and rare species. Valuable natural history specimens are stored in storage facilities equipped with temperature and humidity control facilities for use as research materials. Additionally, it offers various science exploration experiments and nature observation programs for students, including natural history classes, field trip education programs, and special lectures. The exhibition consists of permanent sections on plants, insects, invertebrates, vertebrates, earth sciences, dioramas, and ecology, as well as annual special exhibitions with selected themes by field. So far, it has held various planned and special exhibitions, offering in-depth exhibitions by field of natural history. Additionally, the museum is leading the way in providing information services by launching a natural history museum website and web content on natural monuments, endangered and protected species, and launching a cyber natural history museum.
