Overview
Donggeomdo is a small island with an area of 1.61㎢ located south of Ganghwa Island. It is connected by Seondeori and Yeonryuk Bridge in Gilsang-myeon, Ganghwa-gun, making it easy to reach by car from Ganghwa Island. The name 'Donggeomdo (東檢島)' originated from the eastern checkpoint used by ships traveling from the Samnam region to Hanyang, as well as merchants traveling between China and Korea. The island features mountainous terrain rising in the center, and the northeast and west coasts form relatively gentle terrain. Wide tidal flats spread around the island, creating dramatic scenery at low tide, and reed beds grow thick along the harbor. Donggeomdo, with a coastline of 6.95 km, is quite famous for camping, car camping, and sea fishing. Several pensions and campgrounds line the southwestern coast of the island, and at the eastern end, there is a parking lot for car camping at Donggeom Pier. Compared to nearby Ganghwado and Seokmodo, there are fewer people, so you can listen to the sound of the waves and enjoy a peaceful rest. Donggeom Leisure Sea Fishing Spot on the southeast side of the island is perfect for families to enjoy sea fishing with a variety of species such as rockfish, red sea bream, croaker, and jabari. The DRFA 365 Art Theater in the northeast of the island is a cinema that screens art films year-round and is a representative tourist attraction of the island. They select masterpieces that will be remembered in film history and show 1~3 movies daily. (Source: Incheon Tour)
