Overview
Named as the production area for carp, the Hwang-eo Market is a five-day market, and since the Joseon Dynasty, it has been a representative market in Incheon, with daily small trading volumes reaching 500~600 heads, not only for miscellaneous goods and grains. Moreover, during the March 1st Movement, hundreds of people used market days to launch a Manse Movement, making it the largest demonstration in the Incheon area. It also marked the beginning of the movement in Incheon and grew to the largest scale in the Gangseo region, aiming to widely inform Incheon citizens and citizens of Gyeyang-gu by reaffirming its historical significance and fostering pride. In May 2005, it was designated as a memorial facility by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, and the site consists of a plaza and a memorial tower. The memorial hall consists of three floors: the first floor houses the Hwang-eo Market March 1st Independence Movement exhibition hall, the second floor houses the main auditorium, and the third floor includes offices and club rooms. Exhibits include the court ruling, the location map of the independence movement, a model of the March 1st Independence Movement, and inmate cards.
