Overview
Baebongsan is the only mountainous park in Seodongdaemun-gu. Following the Kim Shin-jo incident in 1968, a military base was established at the summit in 1973, and access to the summit was restricted for 48 years. However, after the military base relocated in 2015, the site was restored as a park, and the Goguryeo government office ruins were discovered at the summit, leading to its designation as Seoul Metropolitan City Monument No. 42. From 2013 to 2018, a 4.5 km circumference path was completed, accessible to people of all ages and walkers, with benches conveniently arranged along the middle, making it a great place to rest. Various cultural and sports facilities such as the Forest Library, artificial rock wall, X-game arcade, and loess trail are also available, making it a landmark in Dongdaemun.
